It is estimated that there are 9.1 million micro-entrepreneurs in Kenya, most of which are active in the Nairobi area. People who move to the capital generally come seeking employment. However, given that most don’t have the skills required and don’t find work, they try as best they can to create their own income-generating business.

ACTEC and ECT (Eastlands College of Technology), working through the Informal Sector Business Institute (ISBI), have given themselves the mission of supporting these micro-entrepreneurs and helping them to launch and consolidate their own companies by offering basic entrepreneurship training (accounting, management, marketing, etc.) and computer skills.

• About a hundred entrepreneurs from Nairobi take part in basic entrepreneurship management training each year.
• Strengthening of the methodology to provide personal follow-up to micro-entrepreneurs.
• The training programme has been extended to the villages on the outskirts of Nairobi.
• ISBI training has new premises within the new ECT training centre.
