Making nursing education accessible to girls from disadvantaged backgrounds by contributing to the partial financing of their tuition fees
Inaugurated in January 1998, the Institut Supérieur en Sciences Infirmières (ISSI) offers a four-year paramedical training course for young Congolese women. ACTEC works with ISSI to strengthen the professional skills of paramedical staff and health structures in the DR Congo.
The training provided by ISSI has a cost that is not affordable for many young women wishing to follow it. Since 2004, ISSI and ACTEC have been working together to make nursing training affordable for young women in poverty, through a system of sponsorship of ISSI students, who receive a grant of €300 per student per academic year. Depending on the funds available, the number of sponsored students naturally varies. For example, for the 2019-2020 academic year, we have sponsored 68 female students.
ACTEC also supports ISSI by funding appropriate equipment and teaching materials to ensure quality training.
