Strengthening the management skills of Nairobi micro-entrepreneurs working in the informal economy to improve their living conditions <\/h2><\/div><\/div>[\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]It is estimated that there are 9.1 million micro-entrepreneurs in Kenya, most of which are active in the Nairobi area. People who move to the capital generally come seeking employment. However, given that most don’t have the skills required and don’t find work, they try as best they can to create their own income-generating business.<\/p>\n

ACTEC and ECT (Eastlands College of Technology), working through the Informal Sector Business Institute (ISBI), have given themselves the mission of supporting these micro-entrepreneurs and helping them to launch and consolidate their own companies by offering basic entrepreneurship training (accounting, management, marketing, etc.) and computer skills.[\/vc_column_text]

When microcredit means entrepreneurship training<\/h2><\/div>
Many of ECT’s micro-entrepreneurs receive a microcredit each year thanks to the international KIVA microcredit platform (www.kiva.org) which provides loans at 0% interest. ECT acts as the guarantor for each entrepreneur registered with the website. They must complete the entire training course to receive a loan. Over the years, KIVA has become a key partner for ECT and provides important motivation for entrepreneurs who want to benefit from KIVA’s services. In 2014 and 2015, ECT received the prize for best KIVA administrator\/manager with an impressive repayment rate by ECT entrepreneurs of 95.3%.<\/div><\/div>\t\t<\/div><\/div>

  • About a hundred entrepreneurs from Nairobi take part in basic entrepreneurship management training each year.<\/li>\n
