St. Mary Dominique Mazzarello School seeks to reinforce inclusion and be a center of excellence in fashion design.
St. Mary Dominique Mazzarello School, a secondary vocational training centre, has a great reputation throughout the country. During our 2022-2026 programme, we will jointly address new challenges, including strengthening the inclusion of the most vulnerable youth and adults, and transforming the school into a centre of excellence in the fashion design sector.
ACTEC and its partner will join forces to carry out a number of key activities:
- The implementation of literacy courses and a new 3-month vocational training: this intensive training is primarily aimed at young people and adults who have no education (most of them are illiterate) or who only have a primary school diploma.
- The launch of the country’s first College of Tailoring: the two-year post-graduate course in Fashion Design will be open to students who have graduated from secondary school. Graduates will have the skills to teach in high schools or to start their own brands. This pilot project takes place within the policy to strengthen the Rwandan textile industry, one of the country’s development drivers.
- Support for the 3 existing secondary level technical training courses (3 years) through investment in human resources (teacher training) and material resources (equipment, renovation work): Culinary Arts, Catering Services and Fashion Design.
- The establishment of an Employment Office to increase internship and employment opportunities with local businesses.
